TAILORED HIV PREVENTION INTERVENTIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR AFRICANS LIVING IN ENGLAND.
16.12.2009: Testing is the only way you can tell if you are infected with HIV is the message emphasised in the new HIV testing campaign by the African HIV Policy Network (AHPN). The campaign is part of the Department of Health funded National African HIV prevention (NAHIP) programme.
Launch of Faith toolkits by AHPN on 18th June 2009
The African HIV Policy Network (AHPN) is launching a Christian and a Muslim toolkit for faith leaders on 18 June 2009 as part of the Changing Perspectives campaign. The toolkits will enable faith leaders to initiate and develop HIV prevention interventions and other HIV services in faith based settings. “Religion is integral to the lives of many Africans. With nearly 25,000 Africans living with HIV in the UK, faith leaders should be at the forefront of confronting HIV related stigma through ownership of solutions to the challenges our communities face.” Titise Kode, CEO for the AHPN.
Africans in England need more HIV prevention services
A large-scale survey among Africans in England shows that targeted HIV prevention services are required in order to improve people’s confidence and skills in order to avoid passing on or getting HIV.

Start the press argues that by speaking out, people living with HIV and leaders among African communities can raise awareness of the discrimination they experience. HIV advocates can get to know the media and work with journalists to tell their stories on their own terms, spotlighting inaccurate and misleading coverage, and beginning to confront the stigma that exists on so many levels.
Beyond Condoms campaign calls on Africans to speak out about HIV and sexual health
Beyond Condoms, a new campaign launching on Thursday 18 May will aim to encourage condom use and greater openness about sexual health in the African community.
